Provider Mistreatment during Childbirth scale is an 8-item measure studying women's experiences of their provider during childbirth. The survey captures three types of provider mistreatment - Abuse, Failure to meet professional standards of care, and Stigma and discrimination.

Abuse

2. Did the health care provider beatslap you at any time during your delivery?

Failure to meet professional standards of care
3. Did the health care provider forcefully push on your abdomen during delivery?
4. Did the health care provider apply force to pull the baby (during delivery)?
5. Did the health care provider deny you particular things which you were otherwise entitled?
6. Did the health care provider refuse to tell you about your problem during your stay in the facility?

Stigma and discrimination
7. Did any health care provider exhibit discriminatory behaviour towards you in the health facility?
8. Did any health care provider treat you differently than others because you are from a particular communitysocial class?

Scoring Procedures

Participants reporting "yes" on any of the eight items were viewed as having experienced mistreatment by a provider during childbirth.
