Interest in Providing Safer Conception Counseling-Relational Factors

The Interest in Providing Safer Conception Counseling – Relational Factors scale is a four-item measure designed to assess providers’ interest in providing safer conception counseling (SCC) in the context of relational factors, such as types of couples (e.g., female HIV-infected client with uninfected partner; male HIV-infected client with uninfected partner; client with no committed partner; clients who have not disclosed to their partner; clients/couples who already have children).

1. How interested are you in providing guidance to an HIV-infected woman who wants to conceive, but does not have a committed partner?
2. How interested are you in providing guidance to an HIV-infected man who wants to conceive, but does not have a committed partner?
3. How interested are you in providing guidance about HIV disclosure to an HIV-infected client who wants to have a child with an HIV-negative partner, to whom they have not disclosed their HIV status?
4. How interested are you in providing guidance to HIV-affected couples who want to conceive if they already have children?

Scoring Procedures

Compute the mean item score. Higher scores represent greater interest in providing safer conception counseling to people living with HIV in the context of relational factors.
